This book is magnificent. Ms. Collins has achieved literary magic here. Whether you are a mature young adult or enjoying your retirement, this is a book you will love. Be prepared to immediately dive into the next book, however, as this one leaves you breathless and without complete closure.

Atmosphere & setting: Dark. Set in a brutal post-apocalyptic world.

I had to force myself to read most of this book. I began reading it thinking about the story of a man shipwrecked on an island and his survival. I thought, having read many other classics, that I was prepared for the ignorance of the English at that time, but I was woefully unprepared. The Caruso character is so unsympathetic, so hypocritical and so totally UNCHRISTIAN in his overall thinking and actions that you find yourself rooting for the "pagans" to do away with him. He saves Friday only with the thought of how to enslave him.

Hunger Games Trilogy Boxset

I find this whole topic and its inferences to be an inappropriate topic for young readers because it preaches Apocalypse thinking and negative outcomes, i.e., society is terrible and will fail, and individuality and tolerance and working together can never succeed, so mistrust and violence is the only basis of survival. It also propagandizes way too much and offers little that is redeeming or positive for young people to model their lives on as they join society as adults. The whole concept frankly is a bit creepy.
